The Mesquite ISD Education Foundation, Inc. will partner with the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, the Mesquite Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the City of Mesquite to present the first-ever “Real. Texas. Festival.” The event will take place April 26-28, 2007, at Resistol Arena, the Mesquite Exhibit Hall and surrounding environs.

The Foundation plans to host the kickoff event, titled Lone Star Legacy, on April 26.  This event will serve as the principal fund-raiser for the Foundation. All of the proceeds will go directly to benefit MISD programs for Mesquite school children.

The Lone Star Legacy will feature entertainment from well-known country artist, Robert Earl Keen performing an intimate concert for attendees. The Mesquite Symphony Orchestra will also perform special pop and classical selections.

The “Real. Texas. Festival.” is a combination cooking-craft-rodeo-music-and-art show. Plans are to develop the “Real. Texas. Festival.” into a signature event for Mesquite – and a regional draw for the Metroplex and beyond.

The three-day festival will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo with a special bull-riding event. It will also feature an all-Texas music jam on the main stage. Scheduled to perform are Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Kevin Fowler and Charlie Robison, and the Saturday headliner will be Blake Shelton.
